Florida’s largest credit union launches pay it forward day

TAMPA, FL (October 27, 2014) — Suncoast Credit Union launched its inaugural Pay It Forward Day on October 18, 2014. This initiative was designed to inspire employees to perform intentional acts of kindness and positively impact the communities where employees live, work and play.

Pay It Forward Day aligned with International Credit Union Day’s theme of ‘Local Service, Global Good.’ Over 600 Suncoast Credit Union employees, friends and family members volunteered hundreds of hours in their local communities in the 17 counties the credit union serves.

“Giving back to our community is a big part of the Suncoast Credit Union philosophy, and it’s humbling to see how our employees embraced the spirit of the Pay it Forward Day,” says Susan Johnson, chief operating officer at Suncoast Credit Union.

Local organizations that received direct benefit from Pay It Forward Day included: Metropolitan Ministries, Humane Society, Habitat for Humanity in Charlotte and Citrus Counties, ECHO, American Cancer Society, The Spring of Tampa Bay, Alpha House of Tampa, Ronald McDonald House, St. Joseph’s Children Hospital and Charlotte Homeless Coalition. Other volunteer efforts included cleaning up the Upper Tampa Bay Park and Bonita Beach, serving food at local homeless shelters, proving donations to local food banks, volunteering at senior and assisted living facilities and delivering baked goods to local firefighters.

Over 100 employees shared photos on social media with the hashtag #SuncoastGivesBack. Suncoast Credit Union plans to host Pay it Forward Day on an annual basis.
