Frances M. Gibelyou’s remarkable journey: A legacy of service and leadership at Family First Credit Union

SAGINAW, MICHIGAN (September 8, 2023)After an extraordinary 38-year tenure, Family First Credit Union announces the retirement of Frances M. Gibelyou, a visionary leader whose dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment have left an indelible mark on both the institution and the lives it touches. Fran’s remarkable journey began in January 1985 when she joined what was then known as “Saginaw Municipal Employees Credit Union” as a Teller. Over the years, she ascended through various roles, from teller to CEO, shaping the credit union into the thriving institution it is today.

Fran’s tenure with the credit union was more than a career; it was a lifelong commitment to the principles of the credit union movement – a movement built on the foundation of “people helping people.” Her tireless dedication to this mission has shaped the lives of countless individuals and families within the community. From her early days as a Teller, Fran consistently demonstrated her belief in the power of community and service, always striving to “make it a great day” for both members and colleagues.

As Head Teller and Assistant Manager, Fran showcased her leadership prowess, fostering an environment of collaboration, growth, and excellence. Her rise to the position of Branch Manager further underscored her leadership abilities, and she continued to climb the ladder with determination and grace, eventually assuming the role of CEO.

Fran’s leadership style was defined by her genuine care for everyone she encountered. One of her favorite phrases, “serving one member at a time,” epitomized her commitment to personalized service that transformed the credit union experience for all. Her infectious smile, warmth, and compassion became synonymous with Family First Credit Union and left an indelible mark on everyone she interacted with.

“Fran’s impact goes beyond her professional accomplishments; she has truly become the heart of Family First Credit Union,” said Janie Smith, the current CFO of the credit union. “Her legacy will forever be woven into the fabric of our institution, reminding us of the importance of compassion, dedication, and a steadfast commitment to our community.”

Family First Credit Union is exceedingly proud to have had Fran at its helm, guiding the organization through transformational changes and continuous growth. As Fran embarks on this new chapter of her life, the credit union expresses its heartfelt gratitude for her immeasurable contributions and wishes her a retirement filled with joy, relaxation, and the fulfillment she so rightly deserves.

A retirement celebration in honor of Fran’s remarkable journey and contributions will be held at the Kochville branch of Family First Credit Union, located at 3550 Tittabawassee Rd. Saginaw, MI 48604 on October 7th, 2023. The event will be open to colleagues, friends, and community members who have been touched by her extraordinary presence.
