Freakonomics Author Dubner to Keynote NAFCU’s 45th Annual

NAFCU’s 45th ANNUAL CONFERENCE AND EXHIBITION, JULY 24-28

Deadline for Early Registration Savings June 1

WASHINGTON
— Freakonomics author Stephen Dubner will provide credit unions with the keys to unlocking member satisfaction at the National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU) 45th Annual Conference and Exhibition, July 24-28, at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center in Nashville.

The deadline for early registration savings for NAFCU members and nonmembers is June 1. Visit www.nafcu-annual.org or call 800-344-5580 to register.

“The theme of this year’s conference is ‘it’s time to turn up the volume’ and the program is designed to help credit unions do just that—build on the success created by Bank Transfer Day,” said NAFCU President and CEO Fred R. Becker. “Dubner’s fresh insights on how to both identify and meet members’ needs will surely go a long way toward helping attendees guide their credit unions to new heights.”

Stephen Dubner is a journalist, radio and TV personality whose bestselling 2005 book, Freakonomics: A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything, co-authored with economist Steven Levitt, sparked a cultural phenomenon. Through his unique brand of forceful storytelling and wry insight, Dubner will show conference attendees how economics is, at root, the study of incentives, and how understanding those incentives is essential to driving membership, increasing loyalty and developing the right products and services at credit unions.

Also keynoting the conference is Tim Harrington, president of T.E.A.M Resources, a firm specializing in strategic planning, training and consulting for financial institutions. A certified public accountant, Harrington has worked with hundreds of credit unions throughout the United States and served as chairman of the board of a $150 million credit union in Tucson, Ariz. Harrington will discuss how credit unions can leverage methods of leadership employed by Ike Eisenhower—arguably the most important leader from World War II—to foster success. Following the presentation he will be available to sign copies of his book, Eisenhower on Enlightened Leadership, which is free to all attendees.

In addition, the conference will feature other industry-leading speakers, including Becker and National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Chairman Deborah Matz. Other conference highlights:

  • five customizable educational tracks, including the new Board of Directors and Supervisory Committee track;
  • Women’s Leadership Summit, a dynamic program on trends, opportunities and critical issues facing women working in the financial services industry;
  • Directors and Supervisory Committee Forum, a new, exclusive forum which will detail the latest risks, opportunities and solutions in the credit union industry;
  • Defense Credit Union Summit, a half-day of education and discussion addressing defense credit union issues of common concern (separate registration required); and
  • the industry’s leading and largest trade show.
