El Paso, TX (July 3, 2025) |
GECU joined forces with the Joint Modernization Command to celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States Army with a ceremonial cake-cutting at the El Paso Chihuahuas game on Friday, June 27. The tribute took place in the Santa Fe Pavilion at Southwest University Park at the conclusion of the third inning.
A time-honored tradition, the Army Birthday Cake Cutting ceremony featured Joint Modernization Commander, Brigadier General Hibner and Vietnam Veteran Staff Sergeant Roberto Garza Sr. in attendance slicing the cake together with a ceremonial sword – symbolizing the continuity and unity of generations who have served in the U.S. Army since its founding in 1775.
“We are proud to stand with the Joint Modernization Command, Fort Bliss, and the El Paso community to celebrate the Army’s 250 years of service, resilience, and leadership,” said Gina Lewis, GECU Director of Military and Veterans Affairs.
The celebration at the ballpark was one of many Army birthday events taking place nationwide. This year’s celebration captures the spirit of the U.S. Army through three categories: Heroes, Legacy, and Nostalgia.
GECU is honored to be a part of the Army’s birthday celebrations and pay tribute to our heroes who serve.
