Georgia United Credit Union names Debbie Smith as new President & CEO

DULUTH, GA (December 19, 2013) —  Georgia United Credit Union’s Chairman of the Board Tom Dickson announced the promotion of Debbie Smith to President and Chief Executive Officer at today’s Georgia United Board Meeting.   “I am pleased to announce the appointment of Debbie Smith, currently Chief Operating Officer, to the position of President and CEO of Georgia United Credit Union, effective immediately.  Debbie brings with her over 30 years of experience in human resources, operations and organizational development; having served in a leadership capacity for over 20 years with Maxell, Inc., a division of Hitachi, Inc., a highly successful global organization.  Debbie has been an advocate of the credit union philosophy long before she began her work with Georgia United in April of 2002, having served on the Advisory Board for Georgia Federal Credit Union (now known as Georgia United).”

Throughout her tenure with Georgia United, Debbie has been an integral member of the executive leadership team, building the foundation for the successful growth and development of the entire organization.  Debbie is well known and respected in the credit union market and has been heavily involved with the Georgia United CU Board throughout her various roles.

Throughout Debbie’s career, she has had the opportunity to mentor, coach and lead professionals at all levels to become key employees in Fortune 500 Companies.  And, during her tenure as Chief Operating Officer, Debbie has been instrumental in developing and bringing together an exceptionally talented leadership team, with the breadth and depth of experience that will support the ongoing success of Georgia United.

Debbie takes an active role in her community and has served as President of the Conyers Cherry Blossom Foundation, President of the Central Georgia Chapter of SHRM, Chair of the Atlanta Regional Workforce Board, Alumni of Leadership Rockdale, and Chair of the Newton Rockdale Employer Committee as well as three terms as State Chair of the Georgia Department of Labor’s Employer Committee.   She believes and practices her philosophy of making your community and workplace a better place to live and work.
