Georgia United Credit Union School Crashers Provides makeover to Woodward Elementary on July 17 & 18

DEKALB COUNTY, GA (July 20, 2015) — Georgia United Credit Union completed their 2nd annual School Crashers school improvement project @ Woodward Elementary School on Friday, July 17 and Saturday, July 18.  This summer, Georgia United worked alongside the DeKalb County School System in partnership with community volunteers to provide facility and grounds improvements for Woodward Elementary School at 3034 Curtis Drive in Atlanta. Woodward is a Title 1 School, built in 1958, with a current enrollment of 1,030 students, 100 faculty/staff.

Thanks to the Shared Strength and civic pride of over 200+ community volunteers and corporate donors, several significant improvement projects were completed by Saturday, July 18.  Professional Crew Leaders have been working hard for weeks – installing landscaping, benches and a gazebo, repairing and replacing the schools’ entrance signage, painting exterior areas and murals in the cafeteria and installing blinds.  Community volunteers joined the effort over the final two days to complete remaining tasks such as painting yellow safety curbing and paw prints, spreading mulch and pine straw, labeling and sorting books in the media center, painting hallways and classrooms, replacing furniture in the teachers’ lounge, installing chair slippers and assist teachers with bulletin boards and setting up their classrooms.

Georgia United gives special thanks to the following generous corporate donors & partners:
·        DeKalb County School District – Interior & exterior paint
·        City of Brookhaven – Gazebo donation
·        Coca Cola – 3,000+ beverages for volunteers
