Give Thanks by Giving Back! Donate at the SDCCU Holiday Bowl Blood and Food Drive

Due to the continuing effects of COVID-19, the San Diego Blood Bank and San Diego Food Bank face a greater need than ever - we need your help!

SAN DIEGO, CA (November 10, 2020)San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), San Diego’s largest locally-owned financial institution, is asking the community to donate at the SDCCU Holiday Bowl Blood and Food Drive, benefiting the San Diego Blood Bank and the San Diego Food Bank.

The SDCCU Holiday Bowl Blood and Food Drive will be held on Thursday November 19, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Grossmont Center in La Mesa. Blood donations are by appointment only, but food donations can be dropped off anytime during the event. The most needed food items are: canned chicken and tuna, dry and canned beans, cereal, rice, nuts and seeds, peanut butter, canned soup, canned and dried fruit, canned vegetables, powdered milk and infant formula. Glass jars, homemade food products and alcohol cannot be accepted.

“With so many in our region facing tough times due to the pandemic, we encourage everyone, especially those who have not been impacted, to donate at the upcoming SDCCU Holiday Bowl Blood and Food Drive,” said Teresa Campbell, president and CEO at SDCCU. “SDCCU has been a longtime supporter of the life-saving efforts of the San Diego Blood Bank and we are pleased to continue support for the San Diego Food Bank and their efforts to provide hunger-relief—which has been vital for those experiencing financial hardship as a result of the pandemic.”

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the blood supply is critically low and donations are needed to provide for patients in the region. School closures and work-from-home policies have created a slew of blood drive cancellations, which has contributed to the shortage. This is significant as more than half of the blood supply comes from these mobile drives! To schedule a blood donation, visit the San Diego Blood Bank scheduling website.

In addition to the 350,000 people that the San Diego Food Bank serves each month, they have been instrumental in hunger-relief for those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. For a complete list of most-needed foods, visit the Food Bank website.
