GOBankingRates honors Air Force Federal Credit Union’s distinction as credit union of the year by the United States Air Force

SAN ANTONIO, TX (August 27, 2014) — Last night, GOBankingRates’ client Air Force Federal Credit Union was honored by the United States Air Force (USAF) as the 2013 Credit Union of the Year in the “less than $1 billion in assets” category at the Defense Credit Union Council Annual Conference in Dallas. The USAF awards this distinction annually to the credit union that goes above and beyond to provide excellent customer service, high-quality financial products and catered support to the Air Force community.

Air Force FCU’s noteworthy achievements included providing its members with one-on-one support during the 2013 government shutdown, offering weekly financial management classes to more than 4,000 military personnel, including Wounded Warrior Project TRACK students, and helping to support the USAF Airman Heritage Museum.

“Outstanding personal financial management education, tailored financial products, and exemplary community support,” helped Air Force FCU outshine its competitors, according to Assistant Secretary of the Air Force Jamie M. Morin.

Other Air Force FCU milestones in 2013 included:

  •          Loan growth of 19 percent
  •          Membership increase of 6.5 percent
  •          Lowest auto loan rate offered in San Antonio area

The United States Air Force has recognized military credit unions since 1992. Air Force FCU last won the distinction in 1996, and has also been named by GOBankingRates as a Top Military Financial Institution in 2013 and 2014.
