Grasslands Federal Credit Union receives $10,000 grant to feed local students

CIRCLE, MT (May 5, 2020) — On April 27, 2020 Grasslands Federal Credit Union (Grasslands FCU) was awarded a $10,000 COVID-19 Emergency Fund award from the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) to fund its Emergency Grant Project.

Local students in the communities that Grasslands FCU serves have been out of school for more than three weeks, and are looking at an additional three weeks or more. These schools have been working hard to provide meals for the students who would normally depend on school lunches for their daily meals, but the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting response have created an unprecedented need for basic necessities like food.

Schools have lost funds due to the cancellation of activities and the increased cost of attempting to provide curriculum virtually. The credit union’s goal is to lighten the schools’ financial strain of providing these much-needed “take-out” meals.

The credit union will analyze membership by zip code to identify the population density of members under the age of 18. It will then distribute funds in an equitable manner according to those figures.
