Greater Nevada Credit Union Money Makers

CARSON CITY, NV (July 1, 2014) — Two members of Greater Nevada Credit Union’s management team were recently honored at the first annual Northern Nevada Business Weekly Money Makers Awards.  The event recognized professionals in the financial community for their energy, enthusiasm and innovative ideas for achieving success in their particular industries, while becoming active in their communities.

EVP/Chief Financial Officer, Joyce Whitney-Silva, who started at Greater Nevada in 2001, was selected based on her role in helping lead the credit union out of the recent recession and back into growth mode.  Referred to as a “thrill-seeking adrenalin junkie”, Whitney-Silva’s personal accomplishments include climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, driving a NASCAR racecar at 171 miles per hour, and setting a fasted time record at luge racing school.  She also helped develop the Lake Tahoe Polar Plunge to help raise funds for Special Olympics Nevada, for which she also serves as a member of the organization’s advisory board.  In addition, she has served as chair of the Relay for Life committee of the American Cancer Society, and she also serves as treasurer on the Carson City Chamber of Commerce’s board of directors.

Another Greater Nevada Money Maker is Vice President of Business Services, Jeremy Gilpin, who has been at Greater Nevada for less than two years.  In that short time, Gilpin helped establish a thriving business services department, increasing production by over 300% from the previous year.  With his leadership, Greater Nevada also introduced  a merchant services program, and added other products and services for business members.  His personal accomplishments include completing his service at the Kansas Army National Guard as one of the youngest battalion-level staff officers in the Army since World War II, with oversight of nearly 900 soldiers.  In addition, he holds past and present leadership roles in economic development, chamber of commerce, and Rotary groups.

Greater Nevada is headquartered in Carson City, Nevada and has been serving northern Nevada since 1949. The credit union has more than 45,000 members and $485 million in assets, and has been consistently voted Best Financial Institution in its service areas.  Since 2008, Greater Nevada has also been recognized in the Reno/Tahoe Best Places to Work Awards.  For more information, visit gncu.org.
