Hanscom FCU celebrates Air Force Leadership training graduation

HANSCOM AFB, MA (April 9, 2019) — Senior Airmen from area military bases graduated from Hanscom Air Force Base’s Airman Leadership School (ALS) on March 29, 2019. Hanscom Federal Credit Union sponsored the graduation ceremony as it has done in the past.

The five-week ALS is the first professional military education that enlisted Air Force personnel encounter in their careers. The school prepares them for supervisory roles by strengthening their ability to lead, follow, and manage while helping them gain a broader understanding of their profession.

The John L. Levitow Award, the highest honor granted in the ALS, was given to SrA Joseph Newkam of the 64th Air Refueling Squadron, Pease Air National Guard Base, New Hampshire. This award goes to the student who achieves the highest overall standing from a combination of academic scores, performance evaluation, and leadership qualities.

“These young men and women have already shown they’re leaders,” said Paul Marotta, Chairman of the Board of Hanscom FCU. “Hanscom FCU takes pride that we are able to send them off on what I envision will be long and successful military careers for each one of them.”
