Hensarling, Sherman, Rounds and Shasky-Calvery join NAFCU 2015 Congressional Caucus Lineup

WASHINGTON, DC (August 19, 2015) — House Financial Services Committee Chairman Jeb Hensarling, R-Texas, Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Calif., Sen. Mike Rounds, R-S.D., and Treasury Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) Director Jennifer Shasky-Calvery have joined the growing list of distinguished speakers confirmed to address the National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU) 2015 Congressional Caucus, scheduled Sept. 14-17 in Washington.

Hensarling has been leading House efforts to roll back the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act – including NAFCU-backed measures to create a five-person commission to lead the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) – with an emphasis on the need for regulatory relief for community-based financial institutions.

Sherman is a member of the House Financial Services Committee and the lead Democrat on H.R. 989, the “Capital Access for Small Businesses and Jobs Act.” This NAFCU-backed measure would authorize the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) to allow credit unions more access to supplemental capital.

Rounds was sworn in as a senator earlier this year. He serves on the Senate Armed Services Committee, Senate Banking Committee, Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee and Senate Environment and Public Works Committee.

As director of FinCEN, Shasky-Calvery leads the federal government’s enforcement of Bank Secrecy Act anti-money laundering rules, including requirements on currency transaction and suspicious activity reporting.

These distinguished individuals join an illustrious roster of speakers at NAFCU’s Congressional Caucus, including Small Business Administration Administrator Maria Contreras-Sweet, Chief House Deputy Majority Whip and House Financial Services Committee Vice Chairman Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., and more.

NAFCU’s Congressional Caucus is the association’s credit union lobbying event of the year, bringing hundreds of credit union representatives to Washington to learn about and meet with lawmakers on the key issues affecting them and their consumer-members. The Congressional Caucus is open to NAFCU members and nonmembers.
