Heritage Federal Credit Union Celebrating International Credit Union Day This Friday

Newburgh, Indiana – On Friday, October 19, in honor of International Credit Union Day, at all of its seven branches, Heritage Federal Credit Union will serve members coffee and granola bars from opening until 11:00 am; hot dogs, chips and water from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm; and cookies from 1:00 to close. Additionally, Heritage Federal Credit Union will give away credit card sleeve protectors (while supplies last) at all branches and free document shredding by ShredX will be available at all locations.

Since 1948, International Credit Union Day has been celebrated annually in October. Each year, the international event affords the opportunity to remember credit unions’ proud history and promote awareness of and support for the credit union difference.  This year’s theme is Members Matter Most™.  Heritage Federal Credit Union is celebrating on Friday, October 19, in order to thank the members of Heritage Federal Credit Union for their trust and loyalty.

Credit unions are not-for-profit financial cooperatives that provide an effective and viable alternative to for-profit financial institutions for more than 196 million members at more than 51,000 credit unions in 100 countries worldwide. They exist to serve their members, providing a safe place to save money and access affordable loans. Locally, Heritage Federal Credit Union offers financial products and services to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Vanderburgh or Warrick County, or has an immediate family member who does.  As of September 2012, Heritage Federal Credit Union has over $430 million in assets, serves more than 43,200 members, and operates seven branches in Vanderburgh and Warrick Counties.

Credit unions are recognized as a force for positive economic and social change and have provided significant social and economic value in both developed and emerging nations. International Credit Union Day is sponsored by World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU), the international trade association and development agency for credit unions worldwide, and Credit Union National Association (CUNA), the premier trade association for credit unions in the United States.

Credit unions from around the world will celebrate the day with parades, festivals, contests and open houses. For more information about Heritage Federal Credit Union’s events, visit www.hfcu.info.
