Hiway Federal Credit Union wins honorable mention for national award

ST. PAUL, MN (December 3, 2014) — Hiway Federal Credit Union has been honored with a 2014 National Desjardins Adult Financial Education Award. The award, sponsored by the Minnesota Credit Union Network (MnCUN) and the Credit Union National Association (CUNA), recognizes leadership within the credit union movement on behalf of adult financial literacy.

“We were honored to have received the Desjardins Adult Financial Education Award for the State of Minnesota in the fall and now to have been recognized at the national level as well,” said Dave Boden, President/CEO of Hiway Federal Credit Union. “I would like to thank our Business Development and Consumer Lending teams for working to develop and create a successful Financial Education program and partnership with LSS Financial Services to support our commitment to the financial well-being of our members.”

The award is named in honor of Alphonse Desjardins, the founder of the North American credit union movement, who established the first “caisse populaire” (people’s bank) in Quebec in 1900, and helped establish the first American credit union in New Hampshire in 1909. Desjardins was an ardent believer in the value of teaching children to save, and he promoted the idea of in-school savings programs.
