Honor Credit Union, SIR Federal Credit Union receive positive member vote

ST. JOSEPH, MI (May 13, 2014) — Honor Credit Union is one step closer to completing its partnership with SIR Federal Credit Union.  SIR members voted in favor of the partnership on April 16th.  Pending regulatory approval, the merge of the two credit unions will be official on June 1, 2014.  Moving forward with the process of bridging member service to the Upper Peninsula, SIR Federal Credit Union’s current branches in Negaunee, Marquette, and Gwinn will be rebranded as Honor Credit Union’s Northern Division.

The first credit union partnership to unite the lower and upper peninsulas of Michigan, the partnership of Honor Credit Union and SIR Federal Credit Union will result in a combined credit union that is able to provide increased financial opportunity for members.  Members will still appreciate the excellent member service in each of the credit union’s branch locations, and will only see increases in the level the unified credit union will be able to invest in the communities it serves.

“Joining forces with a credit union that has the same core values makes this partnership all the more exciting,” comments Ron Lauren, CEO of SIR Federal Credit Union.  “We are so appreciative of this opportunity and are looking forward to the increased member benefits this partnership will provide.”

“Reinvesting in the State of Michigan and our communities remains a driving force of Honor Credit Union,” states Scott McFarland, CEO of Honor Credit Union.  “We can’t wait to get to know our new SIR members and their communities.”

With the completion of this merger Honor Credit Union will serve more than 51,000 members over fourteen counties in Southwest Michigan and twelve counties in the Upper Peninsula.  Providing solutions for financial success and giving back to the communities they serve remain the driving forces behind Honor Credit Union.  For more information call 800.442.2800, or visit www.honorcu.com.
