Indiana Members Credit Union Wins Esteemed Louise Herring Award

(Indianapolis, IN)  Indiana Members Credit Union (IMCU), Central Indiana’s largest credit union, won First Place for the 2012 Louise Herring Philosophy In Action Award for credit unions in the state of Indiana.  The Louise Herring Philosophy In Action Award Program, sponsored by the Indiana Credit Union League (ICUL) and the Credit Union National Association (CUNA), recognizes and honors credit unions that demonstrate, in an extraordinary way, the practical application of credit union philosophy for internal programs and services.

IMCU won first place in the $1 billion + assets category for the state of Indiana which was presented at the Indiana Credit Union League’s 78th Annual Convention Chairman’s Awards Banquet on Friday, October 5th, at the JW Marriott in Indianapolis.  Credit unions are divided into 5 categories based on asset size, at the state level.  The ICUL selects first place winners from each of the categories.

IMCU’s entry portrayed its “People Helping People” philosophy by detailing the success of their Campaign, Project 44, in which IMCU clothed 525 students at IPS 44 with uniforms consisting of a pair of pants, three shirts, a belt, socks and shoes, in partnership with Samaritan’s Feet.

Ron Collier, CEO of IMCU, said, “It is thrilling to receive this respected award.  Indiana Members Credit Union is a local organization that is dedicated to assisting children in our

communities with their education.  Supporting the education system is a natural fit and is something IMCU is passionate about, especially since we were founded on the Campus of IUPUI.  I am exceptionally proud of all Indiana Members Credit Union members, employees and volunteers, who have made it possible to supply children with the educational tools that they need to be successful through this campaign.”

The Louise Herring Philosophy In Action Award is named after Louise Herring, dubbed the “Mother of Credit Unions” by the Ohio General Assembly for her help in chartering nearly 500 credit unions.

IMCU’s winning entry will advance to the national competition, where it will compete with other projects from credit unions in the same asset category ($1 billion +) nationwide.  The winner will be announced at CUNA’s Governmental Affairs Conference in February 2013.

Indiana Members Credit Union, headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, was founded in 1956 as the Indiana University Medical Center Federal Credit Union on the campus of IUPUI, and has since grown to 23 branches in Central Indiana, offering members a better financial alternative and a full array of products and services.  Traditionally offering better rates on loans and deposits, IMCU maintains true to its roots by “Keeping It Simple” for members.  For more information, please visit IMCU online at www.imcu.org.
