Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union holds food drive for Merrimack Valley Food Bank

LOWELL, MA (July 21, 2015) — Recognizing that fewer people think of filling the shelves of their local food pantry during the summer vacation months, Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union held a successful two-week food drive for the Merrimack Valley Food Bank that resulted in a donation of 750 lbs. of non-perishable food items.

“Social responsibility is an integral part of our overall mission,” said Mark S. Cochran, President and Chief Executive Officer of Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union. “We are proud to support the Merrimack Valley Food Bank in its quest to ease hunger throughout the region. Local businesses and organizations are able to provide greater assistance when they combine efforts.”

Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union understands the value of working together and was pleased to be able to provide pasta, peanut butter, baby food and formula, soups, and other much-needed items to the Food Bank.

“The Credit Union leadership and the entire team at Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union realize that families experience hunger all year long. We see a decline in food donations from June through August, and these generous food donations will help fill the cupboards of our neighbors in the region,” said Amy Pessia, executive director of the Merrimack Valley Food Bank. “ Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union is a consistent supporter of our efforts at the Merrimack Valley Food Bank. The gifts provided include funds from the We Share a Common Thread Foundation, volunteer hours served at the Food Bank and these desperately needed food donations.”

The Merrimack Valley Food Bank, Inc. has been operating since 1991 to transport, store, and redistribute nearly 3 million pounds of food annually.  The organization serves 34 communities through a network of 120 member food pantries, shelters and meal programs in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
