Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union Will Help 100 Girl Scouts Earn Merit Badges

LOWELL, MA – Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union will host a Financial Literacy Program for more than 100 members of the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts, including girls from Lowell, Chelmsford, Dracut, and Tyngsboro, on Saturday, October 27, at its Tremont Yard headquarters.

“We are pleased to be able to provide local Girl Scouts with an opportunity to not only earn a badge, but to also learn financial skills that will serve them well throughout their lives,” said Mark S. Cochran, President and Chief Executive Officer of Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union.

The second- and third-grade Brownie Troops will earn their Money Manager Badge by learning about needs versus wants as well as ways to save and budget. The participants will gain valuable hands-on experience in making smart financial choices.

Junior Troops, which consist of fourth- and fifth-grade girls, will be working to fulfill their Cookie CEO Badge. The participants will explore how to operate a small business, learn the importance of setting goals, and gain valuable marketing and customer service skills that will help them in running a successful cookie business.

The Cadettes, with members in the sixth, seventh or eighth grade, will earn their Business Plan Badge. This marketing badge requires the participants to write a mission statement, set goals, and complete cost analysis and risk management assessments. Each group will present their business plan to their peers.

Both Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union and Girls Scouts USA are celebrating their 100th Anniversaries this year. Working together to help more than 100 girls earn another merit badge is just one way the two organizations are celebrating this milestone. In further recognition of the special year, the Scouts participating in the Financial Literacy Program will receive a custom-made 100th Anniversary commemorative patch.
