LAFCU uniform sponsorship helps professional soccer score in Michigan

Credit union pledges long-term support to enrich, build community

LAFCU CEO Pat Spyke and other LAFCU representatives helped Michigan’s newest professional soccer team unveil its inaugural jerseys in March at Lansing’s Cooley Law School Stadium.

The Lansing-based credit union pledged long-term support for Lansing Ignite FC by stepping up as the inaugural kit, or uniform, sponsor through 2023. Among other LAFCU-sponsored activities is a Fireworks Spectacular following the 2019 season’s final match, Oct. 5.

LIFC President Nick Grueser said, “LAFCU is an amazing fit as a sponsor because its mission to serve the communities in which it operates is exactly what we want in a partner."

Spkye said, “This is an incredible opportunity to help make Michigan stronger. A professional team like Lansing Ignite FC enriches the state by providing entertainment that brings communities together and helps make Michigan a more desirable place to live, work and raise families.”

The Michigan-designed uniforms in the team colors of orange and blue communicate energy and excitement. They are available for purchase online, https://lansing-ignite-club-shop.myshopify.com, and at Nuts and Bolts, 505 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing.

LAFCU and LIFC are offering a jersey giveaway to be awarded April 12, the day before the team’s USL League One home opener, Saturday, April 13. Entry sign up is at www.lansingignite.com/lafcu-jersey-giveaway.

Spyke said sponsorship of Lansing Ignite FC is similar to LAFCU’s support 23 years ago for the then-new Lansing Lugnuts, a Class-A minor league baseball team affiliated with the Toronto Blue Jays, and creation of LAFCU Fireworks Spectaculars that follow many Lansing Lugnuts’ games. Both are mid-Michigan traditions today. The two teams – Lansing Lugnuts and Lansing Ignite – now share Cooley Law School Stadium facilities.

“I believe in another 23 years, we’ll look back at 2019 and see we created another Michigan tradition.”
