Lake Michigan Credit Union announces six new locations

GRAND RAPIDS, MI (March 3, 2014) – Lake Michigan Credit Union (LMCU) is pleased to announce the expansion of five new retail branch locations in Holland, Norton Shores, Traverse City, Farmington Hills and Troy, plus a mortgage loan center in Livonia, MI.

All locations will be open for business on March 3, 2014, except Norton Shores, which will open in late March due to weather-related delays.

This large expansion comes as a result of an in-depth market research study undertaken to identify viable population centers with solid growth opportunities. The decision to expand was carefully considered over the course of two years.

LMCU President and CEO, Sandra Jelinski, feels this expansion will strengthen the credit union and its customer base. “We’ve known that significant retail and mortgage growth was on our horizon for several years. While other financial institutions have been contracting, our strong capital position enables this expansion. At ground level, it extends our benefits into several new communities, including the east side of Michigan, for the first time. It also bolsters LMCU’s presence here in our own backyard. While the digital side gets most of the attention these days, there still exists a strong, vocal desire for brick and mortar facilities. People still like the ability to meet with someone in person and develop a strong relationship.”

LMCU’s new branches are a mixture of purchased properties and new construction. The Traverse City office started as a mortgage loan center in January of 2012 and quickly rose to the area’s number one market share position. The Holland, Farmington Hills, Troy and Livonia offices were existing building purchases. The Norton Shores branch is new from the ground up, with a one-of-a-kind design, specially created by LMCU.

Jelinski said, “Our products have widespread appeal. At 3% apy, our MaxChecking account is one of the highest yielding accounts available anywhere in the country – and named one of the best by Kiplinger’s magazine. Our MaxRewards Visa card shines as one of the best rewards cards available.  Our guaranteed low mortgage rates continue to fuel strong volumes of new purchase, refinance and construction loans. In fact, with over $6.3 billion in serviced and portfolio mortgages, LMCU is one of the largest mortgage originators in the state. The Troy, Farmington Hills and Livonia facilities are staffed with local banking professionals and some of the very best mortgage loan originators in Michigan. And we also continue to draw strong interest in our investment, insurance and commercial banking service lines.”

“Our focus is always on servicing our customers, delivering the best value and keeping them happy…which we’ve been doing since our founding in 1933.  This expansion sets the stage for the sustained growth and improvement of LMCU, to the benefit of all our customers. Everyone in Michigan is eligible to open a checking, savings, mortgage or any account at LMCU. ”
