League publishes 15 reasons why you should only bank at a credit union to drive home the value of credit unions

(May 21, 2014) -- This week the Massachusetts Credit Union League, New Hampshire Credit Union League, and the Credit Union Association of Rhode Island unveiled a new consumer education tool called 15 Reasons Why You Should Only Bank at a Credit Union.

This concise book lays out the facts in clear, easy to understand and engaging language.  The book was published to help credit unions explain who they are, what they do and why they are the best banking option for consumers.

According to League President Paul Gentile, “The goal was to take topics that consumers sometimes don’t quite get and make them crystal clear.  Things like cooperative ownership of the credit union and why that is a tremendous benefit, or deposit insurance or the fact that credit union fees are so much lower.  On every page the book illustrates the “Credit Union Difference.”

Early reaction to the book has been very positive.  Carla Waldo, president of Mills42 Credit Union said, “We love these and are considering sending to our membership with a personal letter thanking them for being a member.”

There are many ways that credit unions can put this great little book to work.  It could be a part of classroom education efforts with young adults or it could be used as a handout for new members or prospective members at the credit union.  The League also has an electronic “flipbook version” available so a member credit union could add it to their website and members could read it there.  The flipbook can be viewed by clicking on this link.

The Massachusetts Credit Union League, New Hampshire Credit Union League, and the Credit Union Association of Rhode Island serve the credit union community by providing direct support and through public, legislative, and regulatory advocacy. The major functional areas are: Advocacy, Outreach, Professional Development, and Business Services. Within each of these areas, there are a wide variety of services offered to credit unions.
