LLCU donates $20,000 to Empower Pantry at Empowerment Opportunity Center and sends out challenge to Decatur area businesses to match donation
DECATUR, IL (March 27, 2023) — Land of Lincoln Credit Union (LLCU) donated $20,000 to Empowerment Opportunity Center of Decatur/Macon County to support EMPOWER PANTRY – an onsite pantry that provides free personal & household cleaning items to those in need. Empower Pantry is partially funded through a Community Services Block Grant.
In a social media post by LLCU on Wednesday, the company posed the following challenge regarding the donation, “We officially challenge Decatur area businesses! LLCU commits to provide a $20,000 match of donations made by area businesses to fund supplies for the Empower Pantry. Will you donate and help us reach $40,000 total with our match?”
The Empower Pantry is open on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday & Thursday of each month between 9:00a.m.- 11:30a.m. All first-time recipients must pre-register with Empowerment Opportunity Center.
“We have found this to be a great need among our community, especially now in this environment of higher prices for common household items and personal hygiene items,” stated Tara Murray, Empowerment Opportunity Center Executive Director. “We have provided pantry items to over 1,000 unduplicated households and that number continues to grow as the word gets out about this service we’re providing. This donation from LLCU, and the hope of support from other businesses through their challenge, will help us continue to restock the pantry & provide this much needed service.”
