LLCU offers community Shred Day

DECATUR, IL (October 16, 2014) – Land of Lincoln Credit Union is hosting a community shred day on Saturday, October 18th from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM at their Oakland branch located at 2890 North Oakland Avenue in Decatur.

Many people are falling victim to identity theft in both the physical and virtual worlds. In 2013, the number of identity fraud victims jumped to 13.1 million. According to CNN Money, every two seconds, another American becomes a victim of identity fraud. Shredding documents is one of many steps consumers can take to protect themselves from becoming a victim.

“Document shredding is an important part of identity theft prevention,” said Karalee Misner, LLCU Business Development Manager. “In an ongoing effort to educate our members and the community, we provide this service each fall to encourage the safe disposal of confidential information.”

Residents are invited to bring documents to be shredded and recycled on site by Confidential Onsite Paper Shredding (COPS). Donations are accepted and will benefit Homeward Bound Pet Shelter.

“Consider shredding anything that has your full name, address and any other personal information on it including old bills, credit card offers, bank statements and sales receipts,” said Brandy Bockewitz, LLCU Marketing Coordinator.

LLCU is committed to providing education and services for financial success and provides free workshops on financial literacy topics like identity theft. To set up a workshop, please contact Karalee Misner at kmisner@llcu.org. For more information, go online to www.llcu.org.
