Louisiana Credit Unions provide tools to assist members during coronavirus outbreak

Credit unions across the state are assisting members in the midst of COVID-19

HARAHAN, LA (March 26, 2020) — As  COVID-19 continues to impact Louisianians, credit unions across the state offer tools and resources to their members.

“The credit union difference involves being a support to our members, especially in a time of crisis,” said Bob Gallman, president and CEO of Louisiana Credit Union League. “By maintaining services and adapting to the current climate, our credit unions are able to continue to assist their members.”

Louisiana credit unions have activated their pandemic response plans to minimize impact on the delivery of financial services and keep members, customers and employees safe.

Across the state, credit unions are prepared to continue offering members unparalleled financial services throughout the COVID-19 health crisis. These institutions have long been equipped with internal disaster preparedness plans and procedures to ensure their continued operation, no matter the situation.

“At times like this, we know members have lots of concerns. Fortunately, access to your money need not be one of them,” said Gallman.

Credit unions are offering drive-through services and limiting access to their lobbies to protect the health of consumers and staff. Even with these changes, consumers will continue to have access to the accounts, funds and services they need.

The hallmark of the credit union’s not-for-profit, cooperative structure is service to members. In addition to continuing their operations, credit unions are also offering additional assistance to members in a variety of ways, including:

  • Extended drive-through hours
  • Skip-a-payment options
  • Loan modifications
  • Emergency/hardship loans
  • Low-Interest credit card options
  • Financial counselling to help with decision making
  • Waiving fees when applicable
