LSCU honors Florida Congresswoman Kathy Castor as 2022 Federal Lawmaker of the Year

TALLAHASSEE, FL (March 2, 2023) — The League of Southeastern Credit Unions (LSCU) Board of Directors recently met to approve the 2022 lawmakers of the year. During the nomination and approval process, legislator’s contributions to, and support for, credit unions were discussed.

The Federal Advocacy Policy Committee voted to nominate Congresswoman Kathy Castor (FL-14) as the 2022 Federal Lawmaker of the Year, which was later approved by the LSCU Board of Directors. She was formally honored this week in Washington, D.C.

Congresswoman Castor serves as a Ranking Member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s powerful Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee. In this role, Congresswoman Castor is able to make a tremendous impact for the constituents of Florida.

“Congresswoman Kathy Castor shares the credit union mission of supporting underserved communities and getting capital into the hands of those who may otherwise be left without access to financial services, said Patrick La Pine, CEO of LSCU & Affiliates. “In 2022, as credit unions across the country struggled to get answers from the Community Development Financial Institution Fund to continue serving low income and distressed communities, Congresswoman Castor showed the exact leadership needed to obtain adequate guidance and support.”

We are grateful to Congresswoman Castor and appreciate her service on behalf of our members across the district and state.
