The League of Southeastern Credit Unions (LSCU) Board of Directors recently met to approve the 2022 lawmakers of the year. During the nomination and approval process, legislator’s contributions to, and support for, credit unions were discussed.
The Federal Advocacy Policy Committee voted to nominate Congressman David Scott (GA-13) as the 2022 Federal Lawmaker of the Year, which was later approved by the LSCU Board of Directors. He was formally honored this week in Washington, D.C.
Congressman Scott serves as a Ranking Member of the Agriculture Committee and a member of the Financial Services Committee. In these roles, Congressman Scott is able to make a tremendous impact for the constituents of Georgia.
“A tremendous advocate for credit unions, Congressman David Scott championed the Expanding Financial Access for Underserved Communities Act in 2022, allowing federal credit unions to provide much needed capital to low income and distressed communities,” noted Patrick La Pine, CEO of LSCU & Affiliates. “Due to Congressman Scott’s efforts, this historic bill passed the House, marking the first time since 2008 that the House has passed field of membership reform through the Chamber. His commitment to supporting underserved communities and aligning with the credit union mission of ‘people helping people’ is why we have awarded Congressman Scott as our 2022 Federal Lawmaker of the Year.”
We are grateful to Congressman Scott and appreciate his service on behalf of our members across the district and state.
