Mabuhay Credit Union launches youth financial literacy partnership with My First Nest Egg

Carson, CA (July 28, 2025) |

In a continued commitment to community empowerment and youth development, Mabuhay Credit Union, a division of Nikkei Credit Union, is proud to announce a new partnership with My First Nest Egg, an award-winning digital financial education platform. This collaboration offers Filipino-American families free access to fun, age-appropriate tools that help children ages 3–13 develop lifelong money habits.

Mabuhay Credit Union was launched in 2019 by Nikkei Credit Union to serve the growing and historically underserved Filipino community in Southern California. With a dedicated branch in Carson and deep community ties, Mabuhay CU is uniquely positioned to provide culturally relevant financial services and now, essential financial education for the next generation.

“We are thrilled to introduce My First Nest Egg’s youth financial literacy program to our community,” said Jon Hernandez, CEO of Mabuhay Credit Union. “We believe that building strong money habits starts early, and My First Nest Egg provides an engaging and interactive way for children to learn the value of saving, spending wisely, and giving back. By empowering our youngest members with these essential life skills, we’re not only supporting their personal growth but also investing in the long-term financial health of our entire community. Together, we’re helping to shape a brighter, more financially secure future for the next generation.”

The partnership includes a fully branded version of the My First Nest Egg platform, featuring a chore and allowance app, savings challenges, monthly printable activities, and classroom-ready content. Parents and educators can now engage children with meaningful money lessons, all designed with behavioral psychology and educational best practices in mind.

To celebrate the launch, Mabuhay CU is introducing an incentive program where children can earn a $5 deposit for every 30 quiz questions completed in the app. Additional savings deposit milestones will also be rewarded with prizes, encouraging families to open youth accounts and participate in their children’s financial journey.

Founded by two mothers and former attorneys, Nicolle Hood and Annie Shoen, My First Nest Egg was created to give children real-world financial tools in a digital age. Today, the platform is used in homes and schools nationwide, supported by financial institutions who believe in building smarter, more confident savers from a young age.

“We’re honored to work with Mabuhay Credit Union, whose dedication to uplifting the Filipino community aligns perfectly with our mission,” said Hood, CEO of My First Nest Egg. “This partnership makes financial literacy accessible, fun, and culturally relevant—and that’s how you make a generational impact.”
