Maine State Credit Union announces 2026 free community shred-it days across six locations

Augusta, ME (May 15, 2026) |

Maine State Credit Union is excited to announce the return of its annual Shred-It Days, a series of free community events designed to help individuals safely and securely dispose of sensitive documents. A longtime favorite among members and community members alike, the events provide convenient access to professional on-site shredding services at no cost.

In partnership with Records Management Center, these events offer secure, on-site document destruction, giving participants peace of mind that their personal and financial information is properly protected. Community members are encouraged to bring old paperwork, such as bank statements, credit card bills, pay stubs, ATM receipts, and other documents containing signatures, account numbers, or personal identifying information.

The 2026 Shred-It Day schedule includes six events held across Maine State Credit Union’s service areas:

  • Augusta Shred-It Day – Friday, May 22
    200 Capitol Street, Augusta | 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
  • Rockland Shred-It Day – Friday, June 26
    168 Camden Street, Rockland | 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
  • Gray Shred-It Day – Friday, July 24
    25 Portland Road, Gray | 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
  • Waterville Shred-It Day – Friday, August 28
    81 Grove Street, Waterville | 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
  • Belfast Shred-It Day – Friday, September 25
    15 Belmont Avenue, Belfast | 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
  • Damariscotta Shred-It Day – Friday, October 16
Central Lincoln County YMCA, 525 Main Street, Damariscotta | 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

While Shred-It Days focus on safely disposing of unnecessary documents, individuals are reminded to retain important personal records in a secure location. Items such as birth, marriage, and death certificates; identification documents; passports; wills; legal documents; and vehicle titles should be kept rather than shredded.

Open to both members and the public, Shred-It Days reflect Maine State Credit Union’s ongoing commitment to community education, fraud prevention, and helping individuals protect their personal information.
