Mara Humphrey named President and CEO of Minnesota Credit Union Network

Humphrey succeeds retiring Mark Cummins

ST. PAUL, MN (April 13, 2023) — The Minnesota Credit Union Network (MnCUN), the state trade association for Minnesota’s credit unions, announced today its board of directors unanimously selected current Chief Advocacy and Engagement Officer, Mara Humphrey, as the organization’s next President and CEO.

“After a national search, the Board is unified in the choice of Mara Humphrey as the next CEO of the Minnesota Credit Union Network,” said Mary Hansen, Board Chair and CEO of Mayo Employees Federal Credit Union. “The Board was deeply committed to a rigorous leadership selection process and understood this to be the most important work of our board terms. Mara is a proven champion for credit unions and a respected, innovative leader in the industry. Her vision and passion will ensure the success, growth and vitality of Minnesota Credit Unions for years to come.”

Humphrey replaces retiring President and CEO Mark Cummins who announced his retirement over a year ago.  Humphrey was chosen after a thoughtful and deliberate national search.

Since joining MnCUN in 2007, Mara Humphrey has earned a national reputation for credit union advocacy and committed leadership in service of credit unions. She was promoted to Chief Advocacy and Engagement Officer in 2020.
“As a lifelong Minnesotan and career advocate for credit unions, I’ve seen firsthand how the credit union advantage changes the lives and empowers local communities,” said Mara Humphrey, incoming President and CEO, Minnesota Credit Union Network. “I’m honored and humbled to become the next President and CEO of the Minnesota Credit Union Network.”

The Minnesota Credit Union Network works to ensure the strength of member credit unions by creating a positive public environment through leadership, political advocacy, education, awareness and regulatory assistance.

Since 2007, membership in Minnesota Credit Unions has grown from 1.5 to almost 2.1 million members; and credit union assets have more than tripled from $13 billion to over $38 billion.

“Mara’s nationally recognized advocacy work and leadership has benefited our membership greatly over the years,” said Mark Cummins, outgoing President and CEO, Minnesota Credit Union Network. “I’m pleased to transition the role to a visionary leader who ensures a strong future for our organization and our members.”

Humphrey will formally assume the role of MnCUN President and CEO on May 1st.
