Members 1st Federal Credit Union is proud to join credit unions across Pennsylvania and New Jersey in celebrating CU Kind Month during October, which also aligned with International Credit Union (ICU) Day. This year’s ICU Day theme, “Cooperation for a Prosperous World,” was a reminder that when people unite through the credit union movement, stronger communities and brighter futures are created, benefiting everyone.
At the credit union’s headquarters, associates assembled arts and crafts bags for Caitlin’s Smiles, a local nonprofit founded by Cheryl Hornung in memory of her daughter, Caitlin. Together, they created 1,210 rubber band bracelet kits, 450 braided friendship bracelet kits, 300 decorated bags and 250 cards to bring joy to pediatric patients across the region.
“Each craft kit Members 1st associates assembled will brighten a child’s day and remind them that people in their community care about them,” said Cheryl Hornung, founder of Caitlin’s Smiles. It is wonderful to see organizations like Members 1st spreading kindness and helping us continue Caitlin’s legacy by bringing smiles to children facing medical challenges.”
Associates from Members 1st branches delivered thank-you cards and cookie trays to local first responders, sharing appreciation for their dedication and service every day.
“At Members 1st, the credit union difference is real in the relationships we build every day,” says Michael Wilson, President & CEO of Members 1st Federal Credit Union. “We are here to stand alongside our members, our neighbors and our communities. CU Kind Month and ICU Day are a chance to show what we truly value: kindness, relationships and helping people create brighter futures.”
Credit unions like Members 1st operate under cooperative principles as member-owned organizations, focused not on maximizing profits but on returning value to members through lower fees, favorable rates, education, personalized service and investment in the communities they serve.
