Members 1st members choose to support families facing illness with $7,500 donation

Enola, PA (August 27, 2025) |

Members 1st Federal Credit Union is proud to announce a $7,500 donation to A Week Away, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing and financing  respite weeks for individuals and families facing a life-threatening illness. The  contribution is part of the credit union’s year-long 75th anniversary celebration, during  which members are invited to vote for nonprofit organizations to receive donations throughout the year.

A Week Away covers all expenses for these getaways, giving families the opportunity to  rest, reconnect and make memories during challenging times.

“What our members chose to do here is truly special,” said Sara Firestone, Vice  President of Community & Public Relations at Members 1st Federal Credit Union. “A Week Away gives families facing some of life’s hardest moments the gift of time  together to laugh, relax and simply be with one another. That is the kind of impact you  can’t measure in dollars, and we are grateful to help facilitate that.”

The funds will help provide more families with the opportunity to have a respite week, covering lodging, transportation, meals and other costs.

"We at A Week Away are deeply grateful for the immeasurable impact this gift will have  on the families we serve,” said Lynn Walker, Community Relations & Development at A  Week Away. “As one 2025 respite recipient shared, ‘I feel like I truly had an opportunity  to partake in your founder’s vision to just feel normal for a while. We made precious

memories and came back refreshed to continue our journey.’"

This donation is one of several anniversary-driven initiatives Members 1st is leading in  2025, aimed at giving back to the people and organizations that help Central  Pennsylvanians thrive.
