Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union to offer home equity workshops

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, MI (March 24, 2014) — Finally, home values in Metro Detroit are starting to increase, rising to levels not seen since the Great Recession. As a result, homeowners are starting to think about home improvement projects and how they can fund them. To help consumers make informed choices about borrowing to pay for these projects, Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union (MSGCU) is hosting an interactive workshop about home equity loans.

“Home values in Southeast Michigan have risen over 40% in the last year,” said Deborah Fahrney, Vice President of Retail Services. “Consumers are now confident they have equity in their homes and are excited to begin planning their home renovation projects.”

The workshop, “Home Equity 101,” will take place on two separate dates. The first is on Thursday, April 3 at 6 p.m. at the Macomb Township Parks and Recreation, located at 54111 Broughton Road in Macomb Township. The other will be held on Wednesday, April 16 at 6 p.m. at the Troy Community Center, located at 3179 Livernois Road in Troy. Attendees will learn how to identify the amount of equity available in their home, the types of home equity loans available, and typical financing terms of home equity loans.

Registration is required for this event and seating is limited, so call 586.263.8800, option 0, or e-mail workshops@msgcu.org.
