Mid-Atlantic Corporate relays $12,148.17 in search of a cure

Helping the American Cancer Society create a world with more birthdays

MIDDLETOWN, PA (June 2, 2015) — One definition of the word “relay” is to carry forward or deliver. Mid-Atlantic Corporate and its family of companies certainly delivered on their endeavor to raise money for the 2015 Relay for Life with an astounding $12,148.17 donation!

Relay for Life is an annual event held by the American Cancer Society (ACS) to raise money for cancer research in the hope of someday finding a cure. Relay events are held in more than 5,200 communities across 20 countries and occur at various times throughout the year.

Employees of the Corporate were split into seven different teams: Pirates of the C-U-Bean, CUre Walkers, Victory Formation, The Winners, Relay Ninjas, Team 4Fisher and The Money Makers. Each team consisted of four staff members and a member of the senior management team.

Throughout the year, each team created unique fundraisers for all staff to participate in to raise money for Relay for Life. These fundraisers included food and bake sales; candy grams; car wash raffles; an ice cream social; a BBQ lunch for staff; on-site haircuts for staff; guessing games; a corn hole tournament; silent auctions; a pie-throwing contest; car warming and cleaning services (during the winter months); gift basket and gift card raffles; breakfast for staff; a St. Patrick’s-themed event; and exclusive parking spot raffles.

Teams also participated in challenges to raise additional funds for Relay for Life. During the challenges, the teams received clues that led to them to a particular location – the local Ronald McDonald House, the Penn State Hershey Medical Center, local attractions, etc. The first team to arrive at the challenge destination was awarded $100 toward their Relay for Life donation, the second received $75, the third, $50 and the remaining teams, $25.

Victory Formation was announced as the winning team, raising $4,198 for Relay for Life to benefit the ACS. The rest of the teams placed as follows:

2nd place – Pirates of the C-U-bean, $1,497.62

3rd place – Relay Ninjas, $1,382.00
