Midwest Carpenters & Millwrights FCU’s Steve Kozel, Sr. Receives Leadership Achievement Award from Statewide Trade Association

INDIANAPOLIS—Steve Kozel, Sr. president of the board of directors at Midwest Carpenters & Millwrights Federal Credit Union in Hobart was selected as the 2012 Leadership Achievement Award recipient by the Indiana Credit Union League. He was recognized at the Chairman’s Awards Banquet, a special event during the League’s annual convention.

Kozel has volunteered with the credit union since 1998 and has been president of the board since 2001. His leadership has helped the credit union focus on shared branching. Since the credit union serves primarily carpenters, millwrights and others in the skilled trades, and its membership spans a four-state area, participating in the shared branch network with locations all over the country provides thousands of convenient locations. Kozel has also implemented “on demand” training on a number of topics and he actively promotes “The State of the Economy and its Impact on Credit Unions” which helps keep the board up to date on current economic issues.

Outside of his credit union work, Kozel is the president of the Calumet Project, a coalition focused on saving and creating jobs and creating responsible economic development, and is vice president of the Contractors Board in St. John. He is also a member of the Pirates, a group that works with Trade Winds Rehabilitation Center to help disabled children and their families.

The Leadership Achievement Award recognizes credit union officials who have given selflessly to promote the credit union ideal and to better the credit union movement in Indiana.
