MN Brain Tumor 5K breaks previous record for attendance, fundraising

WOODBURY, MN (May 27, 2015) — In 2014, the MN Brain Tumor 5K, supported by the Ideal CU Community Foundation, set a new record, attracting close to 1,000 participants who helped to raise more than $54,000 for the cause. Just a year later that record fell, as 1,700 laced up their running shoes and raised an astounding $143,000 with collected and promised donations. The annual 5K was held May 17 at Lake Phalen in St. Paul. All proceeds benefit the Musella Foundation For Brain Tumor Research & Information, Inc.

For the past five years, the Ideal Community Foundation has provided monetary and volunteer support to the event. The 5K is dedicated to those who have lost the battle with brain tumors, the loved ones left behind, the courageous people who have been diagnosed with and are fighting a brain tumor, their family, friends and caregivers, and the researchers who strive for better treatments and a cure.

After a record setting year in 2014, organizers worked hard to sustain the momentum. Their efforts paid off. “This year’s 5K exceeded all expectations and I applaud the organizers and participants for making it a huge success,” said Brian Sherrick, Ideal CU President/CEO and Ideal Community Foundation chairman. “Many of us have been touched by this disease, or know someone who has. The chance to raise much needed funds to find a cure is a cause we all share. I am grateful to our employees for volunteering their time to help at such an important event and thank all of the participants for their selfless generosity.”

Established in 2005 as the official philanthropic arm of Ideal Credit Union (formerly Postal Credit Union), the Ideal Community Foundation is a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) dedicated to strengthening the quality of life in the greater Twin Cities metro area. Donations to the foundation are tax-deductible and funds received are reinvested into the community. Contributions can be made online at www.idealcu.com, at any Ideal Credit Union branch or by mail: Ideal Community Foundation 8499 Tamarack Road Woodbury MN 55125.
