MSUFCU launches new financial education initiative: The Culture of Finances

EAST LANSING, MI (August 8, 2023) — As part of its mission to boost financial literacy and education within the communities it serves, MSU Federal Credit Union (MSUFCU) proudly announces the launch of a new financial education initiative, The Culture of Finances. This innovative program led by MSUFCU Financial Educators aims to foster financial confidence and empowerment among both young people and adults alike, covering topics such as budgeting, understanding credit, debt management, and effective financial goal-setting.

The Culture of Finances was developed when MSUFCU recognized a need for a diverse community outreach program that supports, develops, and encourages financial growth through tailored education courses. The courses offer personalized financial education, address economic and social barriers, and present strategies to help adults and young people ages 13-17 overcome financial fears. Participants will be equipped with essential tools to build confidence and pave their own path toward achieving their financial dreams.

“For over a decade, our Financial Education department has been developing innovative ways to educate members of our community to help everyone reach their financial dreams. However, we asked ourselves, ‘How can we further this initiative by providing financial literacy to those who are underrepresented?’” said April Clobes, MSUFCU President and CEO. “Through research and listening to our community members, we have crafted an inclusive financial literacy program that removes barriers for the underrepresented, builds trust, and offers equal opportunity for financial education.”

Through The Culture of Finances, all community members are invited to participate in building healthy financial habits that will help them follow and reach their dreams. A launch party will be hosted at the Abbot Road Community Room, 311 Abbott Road in East Lansing, at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, to kick off the new program. To attend the launch party, participants are encouraged to register at msufcu.org/thecultureoffinances.

With the unveiling of The Culture of Finances, MSUFCU strengthens its commitment to transform lives and foster financial empowerment throughout the communities it serves.
