Excitement was in the air as the Grand Rapids Drive basketball team took to the court to face the Delaware Blue Coats on March 20; and it was Jersey Night. As a sponsor of Jersey Night, MSU Federal Credit Union (MSUFCU) offered a 50/50 raffle and players’ jerseys auction during the game. Each of the 11 players had a jersey up for bidding as did the mascot, Buckets. The Credit Union selected Kids’ Food Basket to receive the $939 in proceeds raised from the raffle tickets and jerseys auction. Around 1800 people attended the game.
“We are pleased to continue partnering with Grand Rapids Drive and supporting this great event,” said Deidre Davis, MSUFCU’s Chief Marketing Officer. “After opening our Monroe Center Branch in Grand Rapids in late 2017, we began to build community connections with various nonprofits, including Kids’ Food Basket, who became one of our 2018 Charity Partners. When the opportunity arose to support Kids’ Food Basket by partnering with Grand Rapids Drive, we quickly agreed.”
This is the second jersey night MSUFCU has sponsored for Grand Rapids Drive, a NBA-G League affiliate of the Detroit Pistons. The $5,000 event donation supported a business partner, provided an opportunity to spread the word about the Credit Union’s presence in Grand Rapids, and allowed MSUFCU to support a local charity. Kids’ Food Basket provides meals to nearly 8,000 west Michigan kids each weekday through its Snack Supper program.
