NAFCU letter to Chairman Miller urging legislative action on H.R. 5061

(October 29, 2014) — Below is NAFCU Vice President of Legislative Affairs Brad Thaler’s letter to House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Jeff Miller to express the association’s appreciation for his work on H.R. 5061, which would exempt loans made to our nation’s veterans from the arbitrary credit union member business lending cap, and to urge him to push for action on this legislation.

In the letter, Thaler writes “With our economy still in recovery mode and many who have served our nation in transition back to the private sector, your legislation is very timely and needed. It is with this in mind that we urge you to look for ways to advance this measure prior to the end of this Congress.”

The Honorable Jeff Miller
Chairman
Committee on Veterans’ Affairs
U.S. House of Representatives
Washington, DC 20515

Dear Chairman Miller:

On behalf of the National  Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU), the only national trade association that exclusively represents the interests of our nation’s federal credit unions, I write to express our appreciation for your work on H.R. 5061, which would exempt loans made to our nation’s veterans from the arbitrary credit union member business lending cap. We urge you to push for action on this legislation.

As you know, this legislation would allow all credit unions to help provide veterans with the resources they need to pursue their entrepreneurial endeavors after their service. With  our economy still in recovery mode and many who have served our nation in transition back to the private sector, your legislation is very timely and needed. It is with this in mind that we urge you to look for ways to advance this measure prior to the end of this Congress.

There are hundreds of credit unions both on and around military installations that provide high quality and safe financial services to our nation’s servicemembers. These credit unions work tirelessly to ensure that servicemembers financial futures are safeguarded while they are serving, and after they leave the service.  H.R. 5061 would make an important step in helping them with this effort. We stand ready to work with you in this regard.

We thank you for your support of credit unions and look forward to working with you to ensure servicemembers always have access to the financial services they need. If you or your staff has any questions, please don’t  hesitate to contact me or NAFCU’s Associate Director of Legislative Affairs and Military Liaison Quincy Enoch at 703-842-2261 or qenoch@nafcu.org.

Sincerely,

Brad Thaler
Vice President of Legislative Affairs
