NAFCU’s 2015 Board of Directors and Supervisory Committee Conference kicks off

LOUISVILLE, KY (May 11, 2015) — Credit union board and supervisory committee members from around the country are gathered today to kick off the National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU) 2015 Board of Directors and Supervisory Committee Conference in Louisville, Ky., where attendees will gain critical industry knowledge. The conference runs through May 13 at the Louisville Marriott Downtown and is open to NAFCU members and nonmembers.

“This conference provides attendees a great opportunity to hone their skills as a strategic leader,” said NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger. “The program’s sessions and speakers will help prepare board and supervisory committee members to guide their credit unions successfully into the future.”

Berger is scheduled to deliver a “Washington Update” on the current legislative and regulatory environment and how it’s affecting credit union operations.

The keynote speaker of the conference is Air Force Maj. Dan Rooney. Rooney founded Folds of Honor, a non-profit organization that has raised over $70 million and has awarded nearly 8,000 educational scholarships to the family members of soldiers killed or disabled in combat. He wrote the moving life story, “A Patriot’s Calling: Living Life Between Fear and Faith.” Attendees will also hear from other leading industry professionals.

The new NAFCU Certified Volunteer Expert certification was designed for registrants who attended an optional pre-conference workshop yesterday and passed an exam after completing the workshop. Attendees of the workshop received the new NAFCU Credit Union Director Handbook written by Anthony Demangone, NAFCU’s executive vice president and chief operating officer.

Attendees of the conference have the opportunity to earn NAFCU financial literacy, supervisory committee, and Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) training certificates. They can also receive continuing professional education (CPE) credits for CPAs.

The Board of Directors conference is sponsored by NAFCU Services Corporation, Burns Fazzi-Brock, DDJ Myers, Ltd. and CUNA Mutual Group.

The National Association of Federal Credit Unions is the only national trade association that exclusively represents the interests of federally chartered credit unions before the federal government and the public.
