Becker calls on all CUs on MBL

April 4, 2012 – NAFCU President and CEO Fred Becker, in a rare video message, is urging every credit union in the country to engage in grassroots action on the member business lending cap lift proposed in S. 2231.
In the video, posted just minutes ago, Becker is calling on all credit unions to join together in seeking passage of the Small Business Lending Enhancement Act so credit unions can “lend more and help small businesses create much-needed jobs.” (Take action now.)

He points to the roadblocks small businesses face in seeking loans that will help them grow and help create those jobs. “Credit unions want to do more,” he urges. “But our hands are tied by a cap that was arbitrarily placed into law over a decade ago to placate the banking industry.”

“Tell your senators it is time to help Main Street – instead of Wall Street,” he urges.

Becker is asking credit unions to do the following now, during the Senate’s current recess:

  • Visit senators’ offices
  • Attend town hall meetings
  • Engage credit union boards and staff
  • Engage small-business members

The NAFCU president is urging credit unions to contact their senators by calling the U.S. Capitol switchboard, 202-224-3121,and urge them to pass S. 2231. To send an email, use our Take Action tools.
