NEFCU set to launch voice activated banking via Amazon Echo & Google Assistant devices

WESTBURY, NY (June 12, 2018) — NEFCU members have long had their voices heard in helping the local credit union advance its strategy to be the most innovative credit union on Long Island.  And beginning Friday, these voices will be heard quite differently, as NEFCU becomes one of the first credit unions in the country – and the first on Long Island – to introduce account-related, voice-banking capabilities over Google Assistant and Amazon Echo devices.

This first-of-its-kind banking capability will enable members of the Westbury-based credit union to manage their accounts directly from their virtual assistants at no extra cost. The new capabilities, which are now available, offer a number of transaction information services, including balance inquiries and account histories, as well as branch and ATM locators, loan rate inquiries and auto-connect to their Contact Center.

The revolutionary voice-activated banking technology formally launches June 15.  To help usher in the new feature, NEFCU is offering a complimentary Amazon Echo Dot or Google Home Mini to anyone who opens a free, first-time checking account with online banking.  The promotion runs from June 15 to Aug. 31.  A minimum initial deposit of $200 is required.

To access the voice activated banking technology, NEFCU members simply need to go to the Alexa or Google Home app, search for ‘NEFCU skill or action’ and enable it. After they authenticate with their online banking credentials, plus additional security checks, members can begin the conversation, asking Alexa and Google Assistant about their latest account information, transaction history, etc.

NEFCU hopes to add even more functionality to the platform in the near future, including transfers, bill and loan payments, and person-to person transfers, just to name a few.
