Neighbors Credit Union awards Clarence L. Hagemann Scholarships

ST. LOUIS, MO (July 8, 2015) – Neighbors Credit Union awarded four, $1,200 Scholarships to My.Bux members at their Annual Meeting held on May 20, 2015 at the Royal Orleans Banquet Center.

Neighbors Credit Union annually awards scholarships in honor of Clarence L. Hagemann, previous chairman of the board, who gave 44 years of volunteer service. This contest is open to all My.Bux club members who will be attending college in the fall of 2015. My.Bux consists of Neighbors Credit Union members between the ages of 13 and 19. Each scholarship recipient received $1,200 to be used for higher education expenses.

The winners of this year’s scholarship contest are Samuel Aulgur who was homeschooled, Clare Goldkamp of Lindbergh High School, Cayla Thurman of Trinity Catholic High School and Shawn Williamson of Texas Christian University.

Credit unions are focused on community involvement to achieve their philosophy of “People helping people.” Neighbors Credit Union displays this philosophy in our Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals fundraising, along with other various donations and financial education services. Students were asked, “How do you see your college aspiration and future career benefitting the community at large?”

Samuel Aulgur, a homeschool student, who has served 480 hours of volunteer work in his community, plans to pursue a degree in multimedia design and development. Clare Goldkamp’s essay examined her passion for health and helping others and why she will pursue a doctoral degree in physical therapy. Cayla Thurman wrote about the time she spent at the Mid-County YMCA and how interacting with children who have a variety of disabilities and backgrounds has inspired her to become a child psychiatrist. Shawn Williamson exemplified in her essay how even though she is a college student pursuing a psychology degree, she can still find time to volunteer and give back to the community. All of the young winners are strong examples of what “people helping people” is all about. We are honored to have them as our members.

Neighbors Credit Union is dedicated to providing our young members with opportunities to help continue their education.
