Neighbors Federal Credit Union celebrates National Credit Union Youth Month

BATON ROUGE, LA (May 5, 2015) — Neighbors Federal Credit Union (NFCU) celebrated National Credit Union Youth Month in April.  The Credit Union National Association (CUNA) themed the celebration as “Wild About Savings.” Neighbors emphasized the importance of saving money, financial education and parent and child interaction.

Neighbors is thrilled to announce that in the month of April, 54 youth share accounts were opened, 701 members under the age of 18 made deposits and $273,359.49 was deposited into youth accounts.

In honor of National Credit Union Youth Month:

  • NFCU waived the $5 membership fee on all new Youth Share Accounts, so a child only needed $5 to open their account instead of $10.
  • Kids could use the lobby coin-counters at no charge when depositing money into their youth savings account.
  • Coupons, coloring sheets and financial literacy quizzes were placed on our website and social media sites.
  • Youth share accounts opened or deposited into in April were automatically entered for BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo daily passes or a grand prize of a Safari Club Membership to the Baton Rouge Zoo.
