WASHINGTON – Legendary NFL running back Rocky Bleier will offer credit union volunteers his unique perspective on how facing challenges head-on leads to extraordinary achievements at the National Association of Federal Credit Union’s (NAFCU) 31st Annual Credit Union Board of Directors and Supervisory Committee Conference. The meeting will be held May 16-18 at Renaissance Palm Springs Hotel in Palm Springs, Calif. The deadline for early registration savings is March 23.

New at this year’s conference are three learning tracks tailored to meet the specific training needs of key credit union volunteer groups: new board, tenured board and supervisory committee members. “These role-specific tracks will arm attendees with the information they need to make well-informed decisions on behalf of their credit union,” said NAFCU President and CEO Fred R. Becker, Jr.

In his keynote address, Bleier will recount the gripping story of how he fought his way back to success after a potentially career-ending injury. Following his rookie season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and was seriously wounded in combat in the Vietnam War. Despite being told by doctors that he would never play football again, he went on to become the Steelers’ starting running back and helped the team win four Super Bowls.

“Rocky Bleier’s account of lessons learned on the football field and battlefield is sure to help attendees gain insight on how to overcome adversity and achieve new levels of excellence," added Becker.

Becker, National Credit Union Administration Board Member Michael Fryzel and Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) Deputy Assistant Director Jeffrey Pratt are also on the agenda.

In addition, directors and supervisory committee members will have the opportunity to earn NAFCU training certificates: Certificate of Financial Literacy for Directors, Certificate of Supervisory Committee Training and Certificate of BSA Training.

Participants can also enjoy the beauty and wonder of Mt. Jacinto with a ride on the Palm Springs Aerial Tram and a private mountaintop reception on May 17. The optional event affords attendees an opportunity to network with other board and committee members high in the hills above Palm Springs. Proceeds from the event will benefit the NAFCU Political Administrative Fund.
