Nicole Sherman joins Numerica as Chief Operating Officer

SPOKANE VALLEY, WA (January 29, 2021)

Nicole Sherman, a catalyst for banking innovation with more than 25 years of experience, is the new chief operating officer for Numerica Credit Union.

Sherman returns to the Inland Northwest from Tacoma, where she most recently served as Columbia Bank’s executive vice president of retail banking and digital integration. She has more than 20 years of senior-level leadership experience in the industry.

“Nicole brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and passion for the role,” Numerica CEO Carla Cicero said. “She has a refreshing approach to leadership which inspires team member engagement and drives organizational innovation. I am excited to have Nicole join the Numerica family supporting our core purpose.”

Her career accomplishments span all aspects of retail, commercial, wealth and business banking. She has assisted in the facilitation of 10 mergers and acquisitions. She led the development and implementation of NeighborHub, Future Branches Inc.’s 2018 Most Innovative Concept. In a 2020 J.D. Power study, her retail banking group ranked first in customer satisfaction in the Greater Northwest region of the United States.

“I’m thrilled to join Numerica because its well-earned reputation aligns with what I’ve spent a career focusing on: deeply valuing and doing what’s right for the businesses and communities we serve,” Sherman said. “Numerica lives with purpose, embracing smart risks that lead to innovation while prioritizing every opportunity to build our community. Numerica is a trusted advisor that cares deeply for its teams and members.”

Sherman holds a master’s degree in business administration and is a top-rated faculty member at Pacific Coast Banking School at the University of Washington Foster School of Business.

She is no stranger to the markets Numerica serves. From 2011 to 2016, she oversaw the Eastern Washington and North Idaho market as a Columbia Bank senior vice president. Before that, she was the Spokane-based executive vice president and chief banking officer for AmericanWest Bank.

Sherman said her “work hard, play hard” philosophy fits well at Numerica. A big fan of all things outdoors, she loves snowmobiling, hiking and spending time with family.

Sherman started in November, and she officially replaced longtime COO Jennifer Lehn Jan. 1. A Numerica executive since 1989, Lehn is staying with the credit union in a strategic role focusing on product development as well as mergers and acquisitions.
