Nussle: Voters elected a credit union friendly majority to Congress

(November 5, 2014) — CUNA President and CEO Jim Nussle issued the following statement:

“Last night voters elected a credit union friendly majority to Congress. The results are overwhelmingly positive for us despite some hard-fought losses. Credit unions have always stood by our friends in Congress and this election cycle was no different. Of the 15 races in which CUNA/CULAC undertook partisan communications and independent expenditures, 10 were successful last night.

“I am grateful for the leadership of the Leagues and the boards of our National Advocacy Fund and CULAC. Together we were engaged in this year’s Midterm Elections like never before. We invested nearly $6 million on electing credit union friendly candidates to the U.S. House and Senate, including more than $3 million on direct candidate contributions to credit union supporters. A record 45 credit unions joined with CUNA and their League in the 15 races mentioned above to send more than 2.1 million pieces of direct mail to over 417,000 registered credit union voters.

“Now the work turns to the issues facing Congress, including much needed regulatory relief and preserving the credit union tax exemption, as they wrap up work this year and prepare for next year’s session.”
