Nuvision Alaska spends Memorial Day weekend honoring veterans

From cleaning headstones to a barbeque with live music and giveaways, Nuvision Alaska extends respect and gratitude to those who serve

HUNTINGTON, CALI (May 19, 2022) — Nuvision Alaska is kicking off Memorial Day weekend in Anchorage with a statewide gas card giveaway. Active duty service members and veterans are invited to stop by the Financial Center in Anchorage to pick up a free $25 gas card on Friday, May 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“This Memorial Day weekend, we’re extending our deepest appreciation to the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice defending the freedoms of our country,” said Nuvision CEO and President Roger Ballard. “Through our philanthropic initiative NuvisionCares, we’re giving away gas cards, helping maintain our local veterans’ headstones, and hosting a Memorial Day barbeque as a way to show our sincere gratitude to Alaska veterans and service members.”

Branches in Eagle River, Fairbanks, Kenai, Juneau and Wasilla are also participating in the gas card giveaway.

Following the giveaway, Nuvision is leading a citywide clean up at the Anchorage Memorial Cemetery on Sunday, May 29 from 12 to 4 p.m. where crews will work to restore the Veterans Tract, a burial ground of more than 3,000 veterans.

Headstones are an often overlooked area of regular maintenance, making them susceptible to deterioration over time when neglected. Volunteers will be given detailed instructions for how to properly clean headstones without damaging them or causing further erosion.

Nuvision employees are volunteering with the American Legion Jack Henry Post 1, Auxiliary Legion, and other community partners to restore the burial ground as part of the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce’s Citywide Cleanup.

On Memorial Day, local veterans and active duty military are invited to join Nuvision at the American Legion Jack Henry Post 1 for a barbeque, live music and giveaways on a day to reflect and commemorate our fallen soldiers.

Community members with questions on how to participate in the Memorial Day activities can reach out to AK_marketing@nuvisioncu.org.
