Nymeo awards college scholarships to area students

FREDERICK, MD (June 11, 2019) — Nymeo Federal Credit Union awarded two area High School seniors each with a Nymeo Believe & Achieve College Scholarship. Alena Surgueev from Frederick High School and Nyah Stewart from Thomas Johnson High School were this year’s recipients. Both students received a $1500 scholarship from Nymeo. A committee of judges based the winners on their essays, academic accomplishments and participation in school and community activities.

Additionally, Nymeo presented Sara Buckley, a Linganore High School senior, with a college scholarship of $1000 from the Credit Union Foundation of Maryland and the District of Columbia, Inc. She was one of 12 high school credit union members that received this scholarship.

“Each year, we receive outstanding applications from high school seniors throughout Frederick and Montgomery Counties,” said Vicki Johnston, President and CEO of Nymeo. “It’s a very competitive process, and the judges have a difficult time choosing just two winners amongst a pool of talented students. Thank you to those who applied to our scholarship and to the CU Foundation of Maryland and the District of Columbia Scholarship.”

This is the fifth year the credit union has awarded this scholarship. Nymeo is also a Frederick County Public Schools Business Partner, sponsors the Millionaire’s Club and Financial Reality Fair as well as many other school-based programs and projects.

Nymeo President and CEO Vicki Johnson awards the 2019 Believe & Achieve Scholarship to Nyah Stewart from Thomas Johnson High School and Alena Sergueev from Frederick High School. This is the 5th year Nymeo has offered this scholarship.

Johnson also presented a CU Foundation of Maryland and District of Columbia Scholarship to Sara Buckley of Linganore High School.
