RIVER ROUGE, MI (March 4, 2026) |
One Detroit Credit Union announced today its expansion into the City of River Rouge, marking the return of a full-service financial institution to the community for the first time since before the COVID-19 pandemic. The new branch will be located inside River Rouge City Hall, creating convenient and accessible banking services in the heart of the city.
The lease is expected to be signed this week, with the branch anticipated to open in Spring 2026.
The expansion represents a significant milestone for River Rouge residents and small businesses, many of whom have faced limited access to traditional financial services in recent years. By establishing a presence within City Hall, One Detroit Credit Union is reinforcing its commitment to meeting communities where they are and investing directly in neighborhoods that deserve equitable financial opportunity.
“We are excited to partner with the City of River Rouge and expand access to fair and affordable financial services in a community that deserves real investment,” said Portia Powell, President and CEO of One Detroit Credit Union. “At One Detroit, we believe in being more than banking. We are here to impact and change lives by creating access, building trust, and helping families and small businesses move forward. This partnership reflects our long-term commitment to financial inclusion and to the people of River Rouge.”
The City of River Rouge has officially welcomed One Detroit Credit Union’s investment as part of the city’s continued growth and revitalization efforts. Mayor William L. Campbell expressed gratitude for the expansion, noting that increased access to trusted financial services will support homeownership, strengthen small businesses, and empower residents with greater financial opportunity.
“This will be more than a ribbon cutting, it is an investment in our people and our future,” said Mayor Campbell. “Partnerships like this reinforce our commitment to building a stronger, more financially resilient River Rouge.”
The Mayor and City Council extend sincere appreciation to One Detroit Credit Union for its confidence in the community and its role in advancing River Rouge’s positive momentum.
The River Rouge expansion is part of One Detroit Credit Union’s broader strategy to increase access in financial deserts across Metro Detroit. The credit union previously expanded into Inkster, restoring access to fair and affordable banking services in a community that had experienced limited financial infrastructure.
By intentionally investing in historically underserved neighborhoods, One Detroit Credit Union continues to demonstrate that access to responsible banking is essential to economic mobility, small business growth, and long-term community stability.
As the organization prepares to celebrate its 90th anniversary, this expansion underscores its enduring mission: to provide equitable financial services, build generational wealth, and ensure that no community is left behind.
The River Rouge branch is expected to open in Spring 2026, with additional details regarding community engagement and grand opening events to be announced in the coming months.
