Over 3,200 students helped during SECU – FAFSA Day partnership event

RALEIGH, NC (March 12, 2014) — On FAFSA Day, February 22nd, SECU branches statewide were staffed with trained employees ready to help students and their parents complete and electronically file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) – the required form to be considered for all federal and most state financial aid for college, including grants and scholarships.  With access to several hundred FAFSA sites across North Carolina, including college campuses and State Employees’ Credit Union’s (SECU’s) 253 offices, over 3,200 of the State’s high school seniors and their families received help submitting the form.  This is the sixth consecutive year that SECU has partnered with College Foundation of North Carolina and the North Carolina Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators in support of the college financial aid event.

“State Employees’ Credit Union’s participation in FAFSA Day made it possible to provide free assistance to Credit Union members in all branch locations and also extend service to non-members via SECU branches in 40 counties where there are no FAFSA Day sites,” said Marcia Weston of the N.C. State Education Assistance Authority and FAFSA Day coordinator.  “SECU has been a key member of the FAFSA Day team, ensuring that all 100 N.C. counties have FAFSA sites available.  We appreciate their continued dedication and support for the event and the thousands of North Carolina students headed off to college.”

Krista Loew, SECU Vice President of IRA and Investment Services commented, “Participating in FAFSA Day provides an excellent opportunity to further reinforce SECU’s educational commitment to North Carolina students.  We are happy to help so many through the FAFSA process, a key financial step in the quest for higher education.”
